Clark Farm has been in the Hobart/Clark family since 1728. It has been run commercially since 1901. Prior to that, it was a subsistence farm. It is classified as one of America’s Founding Farms. Bill's 6th great-grandfather, Peter Hobart, and his wife Deborah bought the farm in 1728. He was a deacon of the Braintree Church. Peter and Deborah moved to what is now Clark Farm to be near their only daughter, Deborah Hobart, the wife of Reverend Peter Clark, the minister of the Church of Salem Village. The farm was then passed on to Caleb Sr., Caleb Jr., Perley, William, George, Hobie, and is now owned by Bill and Elaine Clark. Bill has been living and/or farming on Clark Farm his whole life. Even when teaching full time, Bill continued to keep the farming tradition alive. Now retired, he has devoted himself to growing quality crops free of herbicides and pesticides.
